This compilation showcases a variety of props crafted for the Jungle Island, each contributing to the rich storytelling and world-building of Riven. Among the Rivenese items are the Paddle Lamp, used in the revel tunnels, which features a smooth circular rock that ignites a fire marble for illumination, and the Flume, found in the beetle cave.
Also included are the Rebel Bucket and Pencils, used for crafting rebel messages, and the Fish Traps from the village area. I particularly enjoyed creating the fish traps, sculpting the ropes and floater in ZBrush and 3ds Max. The floater design was inspired by the dried guira fruit, commonly used in Africa and the Caribbean for musical instruments.
This collection also includes Gehn's Camera, along with submarine rails, heaters, props, and ladders—all crafted with dark metal to evoke an imposing aesthetic over the Rivenese world. Working on this assortment of props was both rewarding and enjoyable, as it allowed me to explore the cultural elements of the Rivenese people alongside the technological influences of Gehn, crafting a cohesive narrative that connects the people and their world.
Riven 2024 was the second game I worked on with Cyan, revitalizing the sequel to Myst with modern visuals, enhanced sound, and interactive features for PC and VR. I collaborated with the Art Director and Art Lead to create immersive environments and props. These posts showcase only a selection of the work I contributed during the game’s development.
